Meet Maddie

Hi, I'm Madison Piers, but most people know me as Maddie!

My passion for dogs started at a very young age. When I was just 5 years old, I would run around my living room pretending I was competing in the Thanksgiving Day Dog Show, dreaming that one day I would work with dogs and be part of that world myself.

At 12 years old, I took the first real step toward that dream when I joined a 4-H dog club with my 10-year-old West Highland Terrier, Scooter. Together, we competed in obedience and showmanship, earning multiple ribbons and Best in Show awards along the way. We also tried agility, although Scooter often thought sniffing the ground was much more exciting than running the course! Even so, our time training and competing together created an incredible bond and taught me valuable lessons about patience, communication, and understanding each dog's unique personality.

As I continued my journey with dogs, each one taught me something different.

Scooter showed me that old dogs can absolutely learn new tricks and that it's never too late to strengthen the bond between a dog and their owner.

Fenway showed me that not every dog loves other dogs—and that's perfectly okay. Learning to respect who a dog is matters just as much as teaching new skills.

Lacey taught me the value of patience, slow introductions, positive reinforcement, and the importance of truly understanding the dog in front of you.

Moose showed me that dogs with anxiety are capable of amazing things too—they just may need a different approach and a little extra support along the way.

These dogs, along with many others I've worked with, have shaped not only who I am as a trainer but also the philosophy behind Pawsitive Paths by Maddie.

My Training Philosophy

My training philosophy is simple: imagine you're at work and every time you do a great job, your boss gives you a bonus, a gift card, or tells you how much they appreciate your hard work. You'd probably want to keep doing those things, right?

That's essentially what positive reinforcement is for dogs.

Dogs are constantly learning from the consequences of their actions. When something good happens after a behavior, they're more likely to repeat it. At Pawsitive Paths by Maddie, I believe training should be a positive and rewarding experience for both dogs and their families.

Using positive reinforcement methods, I teach dogs through encouragement, clear communication, and rewards rather than fear, intimidation, or punishment. By rewarding desired behaviors, dogs learn what is expected of them while building confidence, trust, and a stronger connection with their owners.

Every dog is an individual, and my goal is to help each dog succeed in a way that makes learning enjoyable. Whether you're looking to teach basic manners, work through behavioral challenges, or strengthen the bond between you and your dog, I'm here to help guide you both down the right path.

After all, training isn't just about teaching commands, it's about building a lifelong partnership between you and your best friend.
